It all started in fifth grade. Or was it third? I really don't remember. All I know is that when I was still studying in an all-boys elementary school, things started to change in my life. As a kid, people really thought I was gay. They all told me that. I never believed them at first because I was a kid, finding my own identity. I wasn't supposed to be told who I was going be at that time.
The joke started when I was 6 or 7. My favorite basketball player was in town to shoot some balls for the village's team. I was so shocked to see a man that tall! I immediately went home to tell my family that I saw him. "He's also handsome." Apparently, my aunt took it as an early sign of homosexuality. 'Oh I bet he's gay.' She said. That's how it all began.
As a child, I became close to my little cousin Rose because we both love magic, mystery and all that shit. Nobody does anymore. But since rumors started circulating that Mr. Joya's son is gay, my father was worried and took necessary steps to 'prevent' it from happening.
He would always force me to play with my bigger cousins. The big, straight assholes who take off their shirts and sweat it all out in the court. Although I never liked basketball, I did play with them. Everytime I would sneak out to play with Rose, my dad would berate me. Look, we're not playing with dolls or playhouses. We just ride our bikes and go to far places but still within the subdivision if you know what I mean.
So I grew up a little, went to one of the most expensive grade schools in the metropolis. I guess it was nature taking its course. It was an all-boys school. No girls to play with. No chicks to fall in love with. As rumors began to worsen and I began wondering what the hell my life was about, I met a small clique of gay guys who were very nice to me. Later on, they became my friends in school. And the bullies started teasing me every fucking day of my life.
